    Ivy Bridge all over again.

    For those who don't remember, Intel used 6x-series (Sandy Bridge) chipsets throughout the Ivy Bridge development cycle, but at the last moment, they decided to require new 7x-series chipsets, supposedly to make upgrades more expensive and thus reduce demand, since they had trouble with yields on 22nm. Ivy Bridge engineering samples would happily run on older motherboards with old enough ME firmware (yes, old enough – Intel added checks to later firmwares to block this), but production units wouldn't – at least until someone released a hacked ME firmware updater app to enable flashing the "Ivy Bridge-unlocked" ME firmware onto older boards.

    If there is one thing we all learn over the years its anything that's dirt cheap that comes from china is chalked full of lies and flimsy chinesium. So you can probably tell that I'm amazed this product lived up to it's promises.

    clearly they lied.

    With nothing but a bios mod, people are running 8700k's in Z170 and Z270. Even overclocking them.

    Saw another test where they tested the per-pin temp, since the total power does run though less pins in 100/200 boards. It was completely fine.

    Looking forward to Ryzen 3000. Of course, it will be interesting to see how AMD behaves once they take the lead.

    As much as I love LTT, the way Linus talks about cheap, foreign (specifically chinese) and janky hardware always kinda bugged me.
    "LOOK AT THIS CHINESE GARBAGE HAHA! SO FUCKING 'GHETTO' AND THE NAME IS SO FUNNY HURR DURR!" Do you just hate poor people, Linus?

    I was expecting you to show us the DDR3 vs DDR4 CS:GO results?

    While DDR3 is obviously lower bandwidth, isn't its latency comparable to (perhaps even slightly better than) DDR4?

    In a like-for-like benchmark I wouldn't have expected to see a large difference.

    love this. linus mentions that him and the intel team they are in contact with are not on the best of terms, then he comes out and definitive shows that intel lie about their hardware's compatibility for the sake of money. good guy linus.

    Well… yeah. Anyone who actually understands tech and doesn't just follow build guides on youtube, knows when Intel's chipset restrictions are arbitrary.

    Intel didn't say it was unstable from a QC POV, they stated it was flat impossible, which is untrue. der8auer already showed that a LOT of missing vcc and ground pins – more than were added with LGA1151v2 (Z370) compared to LGA1151v1 (Z170/Z270) – made absolutely no difference to a 9900K under high load. I will let everyone know if the 9900K in my 2016 Z170 laptop fails at some point… but for now it's all good and under a 130W power limit it can maintain stock turbo and hit 2000 cb R15 while remaining under boiling point temps

    Reminds me of the ECS EliteGroup 915P-A motherboard that supported both DDR 400 or DDR2 667 memory. Which had a bios update to support up to DDR2 800. It also had 8x AGP AND 16x PCIe video card slots. It was a decently fast board untill the northbridge chip overheated and literally blew the puny heatsink off when it let the magic smoke out.

    I've seen some other really funky motherboards coming out of China.
